Masu Sushi Restaurant to Open at Valor Acres

Masu Sushi Restaurant to Open at Valor Acres: A Taste of What’s to Come in Brecksville

March 10, 2025

Brecksville residents have something delicious to look forward to this summer as Mayor Daryl Kingston announced during his State of the City address that renowned Cleveland chef Dante Boccuzzi will bring his latest culinary venture, Masu, to Valor Acres. This high-end sushi and Japanese restaurant will anchor the ground floor of the DiGeronimo Companies’ headquarters at the Canvas development, marking a new milestone in the ongoing transformation of this mixed-use site.

According to Crain’s Cleveland Business and Cleveland Scene, Masu will offer a sophisticated dining experience with a focus on sushi and Japanese cuisine, aligning with Chef Boccuzzi’s reputation for innovative and upscale offerings (Crain’s Cleveland Business, Cleveland Scene). The restaurant’s summer opening will coincide with a flurry of activity at Valor Acres, a project years in the making that is reshaping Brecksville’s southern corridor.

A Growing Destination at Valor Acres

The arrival of Masu is part of a broader wave of development at Valor Acres, a site once home to the Brecksville VA Hospital and now evolving into a vibrant mixed-use community. During the State of the City address, Mayor Kingston highlighted several key projects slated for 2025:

  • Sherwin-Williams R&D Center: The 600,000-square-foot facility, expected to bring 1,000 employees to Brecksville, received a conditional occupancy permit in early 2025 and is on track for a full move-in by summer. A grand opening celebration is planned for late summer, with Sherwin-Williams eager to establish itself as a community partner.
  • Marriott AC Hotel: Construction on this 136-room, high-end hotel will begin this year along Miller Road. It promises to elevate Brecksville’s hospitality offerings, featuring a rooftop bar and lobby bar.
  • Valor Square: Set to break ground in March 2025, this open-air mixed-use space will feature outdoor seating, picnic tables, and event areas adjacent to the DiGeronimo headquarters. It’s designed to be a public gathering spot, with plans for food trucks and community events by summer’s end.
  • Additional Mixed-Use Buildings: Buildings D and F, part of the Canvas development, will begin construction in March and April, respectively, adding more residential, retail, and office spaces along Miller Road.

The Canvas at Valor Acres already boasts a 95% rented apartment complex with 157 units, 11 townhomes, and eight lofts, with more lofts and single-family homes planned for 2025. Since the Brecksville Planning Commission approved its approval for retail and restaurant use in 2023, the site has been steadily attracting businesses and residents alike.

More to Come

While Masu is the first restaurant officially unveiled, Mayor Kingston’s comments suggest additional dining options are on the horizon, with announcements expected soon. The Valor Acres project, supported by a $10 million tax credit from Ohio’s Transformational Mixed-Use Development program and a $2 million CMAC grant for multimodal connectivity, continues to gain traction as a regional economic driver (Scriptype).

Beyond dining and commercial growth, Valor Acres will enhance Brecksville’s connectivity with a planned multi-use path linking the Cleveland Metroparks and Cuyahoga Valley National Park, slated for 2028. This aligns with the city’s vision of fostering a walkable, interconnected community.

As Mayor Kingston noted, “Once that first domino falls, I expect things are going to move very quickly in the next 12 months”. With Masu leading the charge, Valor Acres is poised to become a cornerstone of Brecksville’s future—a place where residents can live, work, and dine in style. Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting development unfolds!
