Brecksville residents and coffee enthusiasts may soon notice a sweet change at a familiar spot on Chippewa Road. According to a recent report, the location currently occupied by Erie Island Coffee Co. at 7301 Chippewa Rd. is set to become the third outpost for Goldie’s Donuts & Bakery, a beloved Cleveland-area bakery known for its from-scratch donuts and pastries. This transition marks another chapter in the site’s long history as a go-to destination for morning treats and caffeine fixes.

A Historic Spot Gets a New Chapter
The property at 7301 Chippewa Rd. has been a staple in Brecksville for decades. Originally home to Brecksville Doughnuts & Coffee Shoppe for nearly 35 years, the shop closed its doors in November 2017 after serving the community since the early 1980s. It later transitioned to Joe Maxx Coffee before becoming an Erie Island Coffee Co. location more recently. Discussions on local forums, such as Reddit, highlight how Erie Island stepped in to replace Joe Maxx, maintaining the site’s role as a community hub for coffee and light bites.

While Erie Island Coffee Co. has not yet publicly announced a closure for its Brecksville outpost, the move to Goldie’s suggests an upcoming changeover. As of this writing, Erie Island’s website still lists the Brecksville location as open, with hours from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. Yelp reviews also indicate the shop is operational, praising its coffee selection and atmosphere. However, Goldie’s owner Dustin Goldberg has expressed plans to open as early as next Monday or Tuesday, following a deal signed just this week.
What to Expect from Goldie’s Expansion

Goldie’s Donuts & Bakery, a family-owned operation started by Dustin and Paloma Goldberg in Lyndhurst in 2018, has built a reputation for high-quality, handmade donuts using premium ingredients. Their menu features classics like sour cream donuts, maple-glazed cake donuts, honey-glazed crullers, and jam-filled varieties, alongside long johns, apple fritters, croissants, muffins, and brownies—all baked fresh daily at their Lyndhurst kitchen and delivered to each location.
The new Brecksville shop will mirror the offerings at Goldie’s existing spots in Lyndhurst (5211 Mayfield Rd.) and Ohio City (4010 Lorain Ave.), boasting 60 to 70 daily varieties. Excitingly, Goldberg plans to introduce savory options like breakfast sandwiches across all locations in the coming weeks, broadening the appeal for breakfast crowds. The Brecksville site will retain convenient features like a drive-through lane, indoor seating at a coffee counter, a small dining area, and an outdoor patio—perfect for enjoying a donut with a view of the neighborhood.

This isn’t the end of Goldie’s growth; the company is already scouting Lake County for a potential fourth store, signaling strong momentum for the brand.

Farewell to Erie Island—or Just a Shift?
Erie Island Coffee Co., with roots in Rocky River and other Northeast Ohio spots, has been a welcome addition to Brecksville since taking over from Joe Maxx. The chain emphasizes artisanal coffee and has earned local praise for its brews and baked goods, including donuts from suppliers like George’s. While the Brecksville location appears to be winding down to make way for Goldie’s, Erie Island continues to operate other cafes, such as in Rocky River, where they’ve recently updated menus and hours. No official closure date has been shared on their social media or website, but Brecksville.us will monitor for updates.

For now, locals can still grab a cup at Erie Island while anticipating Goldie’s arrival. This change underscores Brecksville’s evolving food scene, blending nostalgia with fresh offerings.

Community Impact and Next Steps
As Brecksville continues to grow, spots like this serve as community anchors. Whether you’re a donut devotee or a coffee connoisseur, the transition promises to keep the location buzzing.
